Millicent never had any delusions that she would be skinny or thin. But as she grew more in love with charms, she searched more often for those changed her appearance.
Her appearance wasn't as awful as she could make it to keep people away. It was amazing what one mole on her nose could do.
Sometimes she could describe her face as a beautiful disaster. She had her mother's face - almost at least. Her lips were fuller, her eyes were a lighter shade of blue, and her hair was naturally darker. There were other subtle differences, such as the way her nose was shaped more like her father's and her eyes were the same shade as his. She was a combination of both parents - a mother she found she never really knew at all.
The journal she'd found tucked inside an old trunk held things about her mother that she never knew. She knew her mother had attended Durmstrang and been very well trained in the arts of deception. She had truly been a Pureblood, the sister of Viktor Krum's father.
But at least the love between her mother (Margaret) and father had been real. Both of them gave up their dark pursuits for the daughter they created together.
The last entry in the journal was about her - Millicent Rebecca Bulstrode. She savored each word in her mother's flowing script, hoping this would help her find some closure.
My precious little girl will go off to Hogwarts next year. I fear for her because I know I won't be here to guide her through the rest of her journey to adulthood. She already has a great magic inside her. And she has the willfulness to use it for good or evil. The sickness that has taken over me will kill me by the time she's old enough to discover this journal. And I know she will.
So, little angel, if you are reading this, here's my advice to you.
You are a Pureblood and I want you to act like it. Let your real beauty shine for everyone to see. Do not hide yourself behind glamours as I know you have been to make people shy away from you. Be true to yourself and your personal beliefs. Do not let anyone sway you - not even your father or any one you allow close to you. Hold your heart safe for the one who will love you no matter what - as your father loved me, I loved him the same. I do not regret anything in my life more than I regret not being able to see you grow into a beautiful woman.
You will do well, my darling daughter. Just remember that I love you.
Millicent closed the leather bound journal. She sat there for a moment and then picked up her wand, removing all of the glamours she'd placed on her face and her body.
She stood and went over to the full length mirror. She let down her hair, which fell halfway down her back and looked herself over.
At sixteen she was still no pixie, but her curves had rounded out nicely giving her a full, voluptuous figure. With her height now at five foot six and two summers of magical weight loss potions, she was decently sized for a girl her age.
Without the glamour, her face was a bit more sharp than it normally was without it. Still, she wasn't ugly. Her eyes were her best feature by far.
From now on, she would be herself. Because being herself was something she hadn't tried until now.
